Centuries – Fall Out Boy Music Review

Formed in a suburb of Chicago in 2001, Fall Out Boy quickly rose to fame. The band consists of vocalists/guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, drummer Andy Hurley, and guitarist Joe Trohman. The American punk rock band debuted their first album “Take This to Your Grave” in 2003. Their 6th album is due to come out January 20th 2015.

Centuries, released on September 8th 2014, was the first single from their upcoming album “American Beauty/American Psycho.” Centuries starts with a instrumental buildup that fleshes out into a hair-raising experience. The song provides Stump to showcase his wide vocal range. His voice and lyrics create an angsty anthem for any punk rock listener to rock out to. The instruments create a sense of anticipation throughout the song that reaches its peak at each chorus and ends with a bang. The song fluidly progresses and contains interesting twists that keeps the listener engaged.

Fall Out Boy says that the song takes inspiration from the story of David and Goliath. The song says that “You will remember me for centuries” because they refuse to be forgotten. This song is for the kids who feel little and it gives them the hope and encouragement to never back down and stand up for what they believe in.

Fall Out Boy yet again releases an unapologetic anthem into the music world that will be remembered for centuries.
